One of the best hikes near Paris

Day trip fontainebleau

If you’re looking to get some exercise and enjoy the natural beauty of the French countryside, the hiking areas around the Château de Fontainebleau offer plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventure. The Fontainebleau forest has been one of our favorite little hikes this year.

Hiking Paris

One of the most popular hiking trails in the Fontainebleau Forest is the Fontainebleau to Bourron-Marlotte, a long-distance hiking route, the trail is about 23km long, which means it takes a decent amount of time to walk, that being said it’s still a day trip hike and if we can handle it so can you!

You need to take the train RER D from Paris for about one hour. Once you arrive make sure to make your way into the forest, the G1 trail begins in the park’s core, You’ll be surrounded by a stunning diversity of plants and animals as you walk along the route.

Never forget to practice your tracking skills when the opportunity presents itself.

Sometimes we find it fun to mix our little trips up with treasure hunts, in our case we used Geocaching, we searched for 3 different locations but only ended up finding 2 of the hidden caches. If you find yourself going for a long hike with kids and need a distraction or two, we highly recommend you give it a go.

Geocaching

Now for those who are not interested in hiking for 23 km, which is completely understandable, have obviously got more other path options, maybe you fancy something in a more leisurely, the hiking areas around the Château de Fontainebleau offer something for everyone. So here is a list of other options we recommend you look at.

As with any outdoor activity, it’s important to come prepared when hiking in the Fontainebleau Forest. Make sure to bring plenty of water, wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and be aware of any potential hazards such as slippery rocks or uneven terrain.

Remember it is France and even though people don’t seem to say it out loud, it rains a lot here, and we have been experiencing this firsthand for quite some time now.

Enjoy the hike!
