Chartrons District Bordeaux: The Famous Luxury Street

The Chartrons district is a historic neighborhood in the French city of Bordeaux. It is recognized for its gorgeous streets, amazing architecture, and positive atmosphere and is located along the Garonne River.

The district gets its name from the Carthusian monks who settled there in the 14th century. It was once an independent village outside the city walls but later became an important center for wine trade in the 18th and 19th centuries.

We took a walk around the streets and we have to say it really is beautiful

The Quai des Chartrons

The Quai des Chartrons is a picturesque waterfront promenade that runs along the Garonne River. It offers scenic views and is a popular spot for strolling, cycling, or enjoying a drink at one of the riverside cafes.

Bord’eau is a funny nickname given to the shopping street at Garonne River. Gotta give the people of Bordeaux credit for their creativity.

Musee du Vin et du Negoce

Chartrons played a significant role in Bordeaux’s wine industry. It served as a hub for wine merchants, storing and trading wine from the region. The district still maintains its wine-related heritage, with many wine merchants, cellars, and tasting rooms dotting the streets.

Dont forget to pass by Musee du Vin et du Negoce if you get the chance.

Bordeaux’s beauty and obsession with flowers

Flowers hold a significant place in French culture, and Bordeaux is no exception. Whether you’re strolling through the city center or exploring the various neighborhoods, you’re likely to come across several flower shops offering a wide range of blooms and arrangements

Temple des Chartrons

The Temple des Chartrons stands as a testament to Bordeaux’s religious heritage and adds to the cultural fabric of the Chartrons district.

Its history dates back to the 18th century. It was built in 1749 to serve as a house of worship for Bordeaux’s Protestant community. The church’s building was part of the Enlightenment’s rising tolerance for Protestantism.

From our experience when we visited it was hard to find something with as much architectural beauty as The Temple des Chartrons.
