Best Indoor Activities
The weather in Rome does not always match your plans. But don’t let a little rain ruin your vacation! Here is a list of places we recommend you visit even in the rain.
Did you know: There are 280 fountains and around 900 churches in modern Rome. Every year, about 700,000 euros in coins are hurled into Rome’s Trevi Fountain.
1. Discover Vicus Caprarius Rome (Below the Trevi Fountain)
Vicus Caprarius, also known as the City of Water, is a hidden gem in Rome’s center. The beloved Trevi Fountain can be found a few feet away.
Vicus Caprarius shows the stunning underground aqueduct that runs through the site. Built by Emperor Augustus in the 1st century BC, the aqueduct was an engineering marvel that brought fresh water to the city from the nearby mountains. Today, you can walk through the narrow passages and admire the incredible arches and vaults that supported the water system.
But please for the love of anything that’s holy, please book in advance, the chances of getting a ticket on a drop-in moment are slim at best!
2. Visit the Vatican Museum!
The Vatican Museum can literally take a full day to walk through, if the rain is going strong and you feel like learning something then the Vatican Museum is probably perfect for you on a rainy day.
Even if museums are not your daily thing we still recommend considering it, not simply for the art. The Vatican stands as a testament to the power of human creativity and the resilience of the human spirit. The collection housed here has survived wars, invasions, and natural disasters, and its continued existence is a testament to the enduring legacy of human achievement.
Please make sure to book your tickets in advance, it is quite a popular place!
3. Take a Cooking class!
You are in Rome, you are hungry and perhaps even a little bit moody due to the rain, that make sense, something that most likely can fix that? Food.
I have to be honest, we missed this opportunity since our trip was already quite booked up with little time left to spare.
But seriously what would make more sense than attending a cooking class in Rome?
4. Enjoy The Pantheon
With a history dating over two thousand years, the Pantheon remains one of Rome’s most famous and well-preserved monuments. Currently it is being used as a church,
The Pantheon is the resting place of many famous people, including the painter Raphael, Arcangelo Corelli the composer, and the Italian rulers Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I.
The entrance is free and the marble dome inside is insane.
Hope you enjoy the trip!
